what to expect

If you've never experienced reflexology before you may be a little unsure of what to expect. Below is a quick idea of what will be involved in your session. Please note you will always have the opportunity to ask any other questions before the treatment begins.

Prior to your treatment a fifteen minute consultation will take place. We'll discuss your basic lifestyle and wellbeing, along side any medical problems you may be experiencing. The consultation is clarification of what you're hoping to gain from your treatment. Once I know more I can adapt and tailor the treatment to your specific needs. Please note reflexology is not only for people with ‘symptoms’, it's a holistic therapy that also helps us mentally re-balance and retune. Reflexology is deeply relaxing and fantastic as an aid to help you relax and unwind after a stressful day in the office or at home.

The treatment is preformed mainly on the feet with some pressure points on the legs, you will only need to remove your shoes and socks. It's advised you wear loose clothing just so that there is no restriction and you can fully relax during your treatment. Massage is performed on the calves when required.

The first part of the treatment consists of gentle relaxation techniques at which point you may want to close your eyes.

For the next 45 minutes I'll work on both feet, applying pressure and manipulating the reflexes to help your body to rebalance itself. Your session should be soothing and enjoyable for most, although some areas of your feet may be sensitive or maybe even a little uncomfortable when worked on. This is nothing unusual and in fact shows where there may be an imbalance within your system that we need to work on further.

During the treatment I'll make a note of which reflexes show congestion. When the session is over we can discuss what I've found and you are free to ask any other questions.

After the treatment you'll probably feel deeply relaxed, even lethargic or you may feel totally revived and raring to go. Every client is individual so reactions will differ. On the odd occasion a client may feel nauseous or feel head tensio, this is purely a signal that something is shifting within the body. These symptoms are nothing to worry about, in fact it shows your body is responding to the treatment.  If you do experience these symptoms all that's required is rest and plenty of water to hydrate - these symptoms will soon pass and the benefits of your treatment will be felt.
